Comedy gala celebrates cultural identity

Featuring some of Australia’s biggest comedy stars, the Multicultural Comedy Gala is heading to Margaret River on August 30 with a hilarious celebration of diversity and multicultural Australian identity.

Targeting regional communities affected by the economic disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Gala serves as an opportunity to reactivate regional audiences and engage with local First Nations groups and talent.

Multicultural Comedy Gala Producer Betty Moxley said they are taking the show on the road over 12 months to showcase the best comedy Australia has to offer.

“Our vision is to communicate a message of acceptance and highlight the value of cultural diversity in the challenging times that we have faced as a nation,” she said.

“By coming together as Australians to have a laugh, we are enriching our understanding of what it means to carry a common identity.

“The Gala’s star-studded line-up touches on cultural identity in a concoction of comedy that pokes fun at what makes us different, but very much the same.”

Promising a night of side-splitting, thigh slapping stand-up comedy, the show will feature the country’s best and emerging comedic talent including:

  • Ivan Aristeguieta (Nominee – Most Outstanding Show MICF 2021)
  • Georgie Carroll (Winner – Best Comedy Adelaide Fringe 2022)
  • Dilruk Jayasinha (Recipient – Graham Kennedy Award for Most Popular New Talent 2018)
  • Andy Saunders (MICF, Just for Laughs, Adelaide Fringe Festival)
  • Joe White (Winner – Best Comedy Award, FWP 2019, 2020, 2021)
  • Ting Lim (National Finalist – MICF RAW)
