Will I be required to undertake physical activities?

Yes. A moderate level of fitness is required for volunteering activities. Duties may include ushering up and down stairs, standing for long periods of time and lifting heavy items.

Can I volunteer if I have a disability or medical condition?

Yes. A disability or medical condition is not a barrier to joining the Volunteering with HEART program.  Please disclose this information when registering and we will allocate appropriate activities for you.

Can I register a Carer / Support Worker to attend with me?

Yes. A person with a disability may register a carer or support worker to assist them with undertaking volunteer activities.

Is there an age requirement?

Yes. Volunteers must be over 15 and under 75 years of age for insurance purposes.

Can I volunteer without experience?

Yes. It’s our hope that the Volunteer with HEART program will see many people in our community gain new skills and experience.

Do volunteer duties vary?

Yes. Volunteers may be asked to assist with a range of different activities, including but not limited to:

  • Event Support
  • Cinema Ushering
  • Exhibitions
  • Bar Service
  • Office Work

Can I volunteer without any certificates, clearances or qualifications?

Yes. We welcome all volunteers, but obtaining certificates will widen your volunteering opportunities. For example:

  • Bar and alcohol service – RSA required (Responsible Service of Alcohol certificate)
  • Cash handling – Police Clearance required (obtained within the past 3 months)
  • Supervision of Children – Working With Children Check required

Will I receive guidance and training?

Yes. All volunteers will be supervised, guided and supported by Margaret River HEART staff or an experienced volunteer buddy.

To ensure that new volunteers feel confident in their roles, you will be required to complete a HEART Volunteer Induction prior to undertaking activities. This includes:

  • Venue walk through and introductions
  • Volunteer duties briefing
  • Customer service briefing
  • Occupational, safety and health briefing
  • Evacuation training

Is there a minimum time requirement?

Yes. We usually ask that volunteers complete a minimum three-hour shift, however this may vary depending on activities.

Do I need to adhere to a dress code?

Yes. All volunteers are required to be neat and tidy and wear appropriate footwear and black clothing. A Margaret River HEART branded polo shirt will be provided.

Will I get to watch performances and shows?

Yes, but there are no guarantees. Whilst it’s our aim to give volunteers the opportunity to enjoy performances, it may not always be possible.
